of anatomy and dead bodies...SHYTE!

so today we had an orientation/introductary session to dissection.

omg

well, i mean it's not all that bad really, if you don't mind being surrounded by dead bodies which have been preserved for goodness-knows-how long and having every random body part displayed right in front of you. oh, and add to that the strong smell of preservatives, used to preserve the bodies. mostly formalin, i'm told.

we enter the dissection room, first having to cross through the anatomy museum already vividly displaying organs and heads and faces in plastic/perspecs boxes.

THEN...you come to the dissection room where there are metal tables around you.

and on them, body bags.

the body bags obviously have got bodies in them lah ok..LOL

they're all zipped up, and there're prolly about...20 or so bodies.

then on a selected few tables, there are body parts on trays.
arms, legs, the upper half of the body, the lower half, the whole body...etc etc etc..
most of them are already cut open, and you can see the whole section of the skin being folded back, exposing the internal organs of the body.

then there's that smell. a very very damn strong stench in the air.
smells like ba kua (roasted pork in slices). not kidding.

i'm told that when u're exposed to the smell long enough while dissecting, you do actually get quite hungry.

i certify this as TRUE. i'm currently munching on cereal as i type. and i JUST arrived home from uni. blearghh..

so anyhow, we were given a chance to touch the cadavers(dead bodies) and touch them we did. hahah..i had quite a lotta fun poking and probing the body. i touched the kidney. i touched the liver.i touched the lungs. i touched the aorta. i touched every gawdamn thing la basically.

at first i didn't quite like how it felt. it was hard and cold.

then after awhile i got used to it. so i couldn't resist touching anymore. HAHAH!!

they explained this they explained that. the demonstrators were quite patient really.

LOL, my demonstrator told us this story which i found rather amusing.

you know how it is, where deaths have to be ceritified by
doctors? no matter how obviously dead they are, a doctor still has to be brought
in to certify the person's death and then sign a death certificate?

so
there was this one time, where this guy commited suicide by jumping in front of
a train.
let me advise you on something. jumping in front of a train for
suicidal purposes is a great way to die, coz you die pretty quick. but there are
ways to do it.

you can jump in front of the train and wait for the train
to hit you, coz you'll get hit out of the way and u'll die pretty quick.

you can also lie down on the tracks and wait for the train to run over
you. it may be a lil bit painful, but you'll still die quite a painless death
anyway.

BUT...you should nvr curl yourself up into a ball. ball in a way
where you squat with your head bent down and your arms crossed, coz that's just
gonna make you roll and roll and roll and get yourself everywhere. and this is what the guy did.

when he was
brought to me, there were just parts of him in pieces. his leg was next to his
face and so on so on..
and then the guy who brought him in told me to check
this out.
he reached into the body bag, and removed a plastic bag that had
this..

then he showed us a picture of a brain. JUST the brain, with the
eyeballs still attached. (i'll include a picture later later on)

yea..we found this 30 metres away from where the incident happened.

OMG..THIRTY FREAKING METRES!!!!

for those who are wondering, the eyeballs are attached to the brain with nerves and some stuff too.so if u slice carefully through the brain, you'll be able to see the eye nerves and see how the eyes are connected to the brain.

omg..damn gross..
and the whole room was like...EWWWWWW

but it's cool anyway.

i'll be dissecting in week 4. YIPEE
