you know you're not meant to be a cook..
you know you will NEVER be hired/make it as a cook..
1) when you think all long pointed leaves are pandan leaves
2) you get all paranoid about tasting/swallowing jelly mixture
3) you change your mind halfway while in the midst of brewing something
right.
so anyway, i was just lepaking online, when i had the urge for agar-agar(jelly), because i'm currently unwell and my sore throat is about to kill me, so the thought of swallowing something cold and smooth (ie jelly) was tempting. Therefore, i decided to not be a bum, and do something about it. btw, it's my first time making agar agar ok..
i went to look for the ingredients, and yay! i had everything i needed, except that i needed to pluck the pandan leaves from the pot.
so i went out to the balcony to look for em', and i saw this whole pot of long long leaves, and i figured they were pandan leaves loh although i wasn't sure..
i tried sniffing at the plant just to double check, but i couldn't get a whiff of anything. i then thought that maybe the leaves needed to be wet before they could really let of their sweet aroma.
so i washed them and sniffed. still no smell.
i was like, ok.
so maybe they needed to be boiled.
so i left it at that.
i then tried looking for the trays and stuff, but i couldn't find any. I called my mom, and she told me that they were in the oven, and i figured, heck, since i'm on the phone, must as well ask her if the leaves are the right leaves rite???
apparently not.
the pandan leaves weren't at the balcony, they were in front of the house!!
-_-"
so bloody stupid.
goodness knows what leaves i plucked from the balcony lah..
thank god i couldn't find the trays and had to call my mom ok!
otherwise i would have boiled those leaves already to make agar agar, and i woulda died if those leaves were poisonous.
damn drama i tell you.
so thanking god, i went to pluck the RIGHT leaves, and YEAH!!
you could smell the aroma the moment you ripped the leaves off the plant!
so ppl, if you don't know if it is really pandan leaves you're plucking, SMELL THEM!
remember!!!
i was told to look for the recipe book, i but i couldn't find it.
so fine.
do the test trial.
put in as much sugar, and then taste.
not enough, add.
too much, add water.
-_-"
halfway, i had this bizzare thought.
you know how it is, to make jelly, you have the mixture of it in liquid form?
and then when you leave the mixture to cool, it hardens??
so much so that if u dipped a spoon vertically into the mixture and removed it the same way, whatever little mixture that covers the surface of the spoon hardens.
i know this is gonna sound stupid, but i really panicked ok!!
i drank a tablespoon of the mixture, just to see if it was sweet enough.
and AFTER i swallowed it, it hit me.
OH SHIT!
what if the mixture that went down my throat coated my tract and then hardens?!?!?!?!??!?!!!!!
which would mean that part of my esophagus would be coated with agar-agar!!
which would mean that i might die later on from whatever it is that agar-agar does when it's at places that it's not supposed to be?!?!??!??!?!??!!!!!
so i quickly drank a whole glass of water.
-_-"
to wash down the mixture that might have been stuck to the walls of the tract.
i then got real, and decided that it was pretty impossible.
HAHAHA!
mucous membrane.
i suppose this is when it comes in to good use rite??
because the tract is slimy, so generally, nothing can really get stuck there....
and it's good for mixtures that harden.
so that you don't get jelly tracts.
:P :P
anyhow, after all the drama, i finally poured the mixture into it's mould, and now it's cooling.
although, i did add in a tad too much of colouring, so it's pretty red.
oh wtv
i'm not complaining..
heh
